Chicken thighs are de-boned in-house and undergo an oolong tea brine to get it extra juicy and flavourful underneath the crisp buttermilk batter. Get a side of flavour-packed house-made hot sauce to spice things up.

Nathan Detroit's Sandwich Pad

This family-run sandwich shop has been pumping out deli classics in Winnipeg Square for the lunch crowd since the late 70s. Nathan Detroit’s Sandwich Pad makes a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel the way it should be: served open face, thickly layered with cream cheese and generously topped with coral-coloured salmon slices. The bagel itself is just as important, and Nathan Detroit’s are top-notch, sourced daily from Gunn’s Bakery. Get it toasted and top it with fresh tomato slices, lettuce and red onion.

Nick's on Broadway

Chef/owner Nick Graumann has been slinging sandwiches and satisfying the busy downtown lunch crowd since 2015 at Nick’s on Broadway. The indulgent mac and bacon grilled cheese is a fun twist on the classic after school snack. A generous mound of gooey, extra-cheesy macaroni and crisp bacon is stuffed between picture-perfect slices of soft grilled sourdough.

Viva, a cozy gem in the city’s eclectic West End, serves classic Vietnamese cuisine like the popular street food, bánh mì, a small baguette sandwich. For something a bit different, order the traditional chicken curry served with bánh mì for dipping.
