Local metalsmith Krista Reid is championing the return of the lost-wax casting method, one pendant at a time.
Reid has been handcrafting jewellery since the ’80s, using this ancient technique to carve wax molds and create intricate three-dimensional pieces out of precious metals, nearly half of which are recycled. Sports are a niche in the market she enthusiastically fills, with cycling, skiing and speed-skating motifs. Northern themes such as polar bears and inukshuks add a distinctly Manitoban touch to her designs.
