Manitoba Opera presents one of the most performed American operas of all time.

Set in a small Tennessee mountain village in the 1950s, Susannah tells the story of an 18-year-old girl who is being persecuted by the village elders. Winner of the New York Music Critics Circle Award for Best New Opera in 1956, Floyd’s powerful score is brimming with Puccini-like melodies, hymns, ballads and folk tunes. This opera is sung in English.
Manitoba Opera is Manitoba’s only full-time professional opera company and serves a region that includes northwestern Ontario, Saskatchewan and the Dakotas.
