Another tradition thrives alongside refined fine dining; the lively crowd-pleasing restaurant built around generous portions, familiar favourites and a menu where golden fried dishes are not an indulgence but a defining feature. That spirit defines Junction 59 Roadhouse.
The restaurant describes itself as a Roadhouse Mexican Diner, a phrase that initially sounds like culinary whiplash. In practice it reveals a celebration of crowd-pleasing North American comfort food. The menu draws from three familiar traditions: the hearty American roadhouse, the ease of a diner and the bold bites of a Mexican cantina.
The room reflects the same playful spirit. Located amid the parking lots and big-box bustle, the restaurant leans fully into its roadhouse personality once inside. Walls glitter with polished hubcaps and vintage pickup tailgates from Ford, Chevrolet and other road warriors. Between the automotive relics hang historic photographs from Winnipeg’s early twentieth-century boom years.
The atmosphere is lively. Large tables quickly fill with friends and families, settling into a room humming with conversation.
The menu roams widely but keeps its priorities clear: big flavours, hearty portions and dishes people genuinely crave. Mexican-leaning items stand out. Shrimp tacos arrive bright and lively, while the Mocajeta Bowl layers grains, vegetables and punchy seasoning into a satisfying combination. A steak sandwich lands with juicy beef on toasted bread.
Then comes the proud golden side of the menu. Nashville cauliflower bites deliver the expected crunch and heat of a classic bar snack. Chicken and waffles push indulgence further, pairing crisp fried chicken with waffles and a ladle of white country gravy, a Southern tradition rarely seen on local menus.
Not to be underrated, the salads follow the house philosophy of abundance. The Lonestar piles mixed greens, grilled chicken, cheese and crunchy nacho strips into a bowl generous enough to share.
At Junction 59, the formula is simple: In an industry that often chases novelty, this is the kind of place that reminds us that feeding people well, with joy and generosity, is what hospitality is all about.
