Grass Roots Prairie Kitchen
A brunch favourite for all generations, waffles can be made ahead of time, frozen and then popped into the toaster once company arrives. Grass Roots’ waffles are extra hardy, made with fresh ground whole grain flour from its sister company Tall Grass Prairie Bakery.
Ingredients
2 cups organic white flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups fresh milled Tall Grass Prairie whole wheat flour
1/4 cup organic cane sugar
1 1/4 cups milk, soy milk or buttermilk
2 large eggs, lightly whisked together
2 Tbsp melted butter or oil
Method
- In a large bowl, sift together white flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Add whole wheat flour and sugar into white flour mixture.
- In a separate bowl, mix together milk, eggs and melted butter. Lightly fold into flour mixture.
- Cook in a waffle iron until golden.
- Serve with yogurt and Grass Roots Saskatoon Jam.
